Fulham's Raúl Jiménez Ends Year-Long Penalty Wait with Crucial Conversion

Fulham secured a crucial 1-0 victory against Nottingham Forest, with Raúl Jiménez calmly converting the team's first Premier League penalty in nearly a year. This successful spot-kick, coming after a 2-2 draw with Ipswich in January 2025, not only earned Fulham three points but also saw Jiménez achieve a significant personal milestone. The Mexican striker has now joined Yaya Toure as the only players in Premier League history, among those who have taken 10 or more penalties, to have maintained a perfect 100% conversion rate, with 11 goals from 11 attempts.
Jiménez is now just two successful penalties away from setting a new Premier League record for the most consecutive successful spot-kicks before a miss. He elaborated on his technique, stating, "It's always what I do. I do it well, so it's something I have been training my whole career. I like to have this pressure with these penalties. I'm happy to score." He expressed his desire to maintain this perfect record, adding, "I've never missed [a penalty in the Premier League]. I'm really happy about that, so I want to keep doing it like that. More penalties to come, I'll be there."
Other players have also achieved similar perfect starts but eventually saw their streaks end. Cole Palmer, for instance, surpassed Toure with 12 from 12 after scoring two penalties against Tottenham in December 2024, but his perfect record concluded when a penalty was saved against Leicester in March. Bryan Mbeumo also joined the '100% club' with 10 from 10 in April, only for his streak to be broken a month later when Brentford faced Fulham. Former Brentford teammate Ivan Toney also missed his 11th penalty against Newcastle in 2023, failing to match Toure's record.
Fulham manager Marco Silva highlighted the importance of Jiménez's goal, admitting the striker "needed a goal." Silva praised Jiménez's composure and quality as a penalty taker: "He's crucial, he's a great penalty taker and not just in a Fulham shirt. The calmness, the quality, the braveness to go until the last moment... he's a great taker and very reliable." The manager also noted Jiménez's recent upturn in form, scoring twice in his last four home games, with both goals securing wins for the team.
Following the win against Nottingham Forest, Fulham found themselves just six points off the top four as Christmas approached. Despite this promising position, Silva maintained a grounded perspective. "Myself and we always look for the next game," he stated, emphasizing realism over getting "over the moon." He stressed that being realistic doesn't diminish ambition, which he actively fosters among players, fans, and staff. Silva regarded the win as "massive" given that the team was missing five key players, and commended their strong response against a high-quality opponent that has invested heavily and played in the Europa League.
