Ftan and Katsina Forge Bold Alliance to Ignite Nigeria's Cultural Tourism
Katsina State is poised for a significant advancement in its tourism sector following a strategic partnership forged with the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN). This collaboration aims to unlock and extensively promote the state's rich cultural tourism potential, marking a new phase in its development trajectory. The commitment from FTAN came after a recent and comprehensive tour of Katsina State by its officials, led by National President Aliyu Ajayi Badaki, who visited at the invitation of Governor Umar Radda Dikko.
The timing of the FTAN delegation's visit was particularly opportune, coinciding with the historic Hauwan Bariki and Sallah Durbar celebrations held across the Katsina and Daura Emirate Councils. These vibrant cultural events provided the delegation with invaluable first-hand insight into the profound and diverse cultural heritage that Katsina State possesses, underscoring the immense potential for tourism growth.
During their engagement, FTAN President Aliyu Ajayi Badaki articulated that the core of this partnership would be to meticulously identify, strategically develop, and effectively promote Katsina's unique cultural tourism assets. This ambitious initiative is planned to be executed through a robust Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Badaki emphasized that this approach is specifically designed to attract vital private sector investment into critical areas such as tourism infrastructure development, enhanced marketing strategies, and comprehensive destination promotion, thereby aligning perfectly with the state government's broader objective of economic diversification.
The high-level FTAN delegation included prominent figures such as First Deputy President Susan Akporiaye, Vice President North West El-Kabir Danfulani, and Kabir Masanawa, who serves as the Executive Director of Katsina State History and Cultural Bureau. They were accompanied by over 16 tourism ambassadors, signifying the broad support and expertise committed to this endeavor. The FTAN President formally presented strategic proposals to Governor Radda, detailing practical and actionable areas for collaboration between the state and private sector stakeholders in effectively harnessing the burgeoning tourism opportunities within Katsina.
Furthermore, the visit facilitated crucial on-the-spot assessments of key tourism sites and various ongoing projects across the state. These evaluations were instrumental in identifying specific areas where private investors could significantly contribute to both the development and promotion of these attractions. Concluding the tour, Governor Radda Dikko reiterated his administration's unwavering commitment to fostering tourism growth. He also formally requested the re-presentation of the prestigious Tourism Icon Award 2025, which he had previously received at the Nigeria Tourism Investors Forum and Exhibition.
The Nigeria Tourism Investors Forum and Exhibition, an annual event meticulously organized by FTAN in Abuja, stands as a pivotal platform dedicated to showcasing Nigeria's vast tourism potential and attracting crucial investments from both public and private sectors. Preparations are actively underway for this year's edition of the forum, which is slated for July, alongside FTAN's Annual General Meeting. Organizers have promised an improved format and an even broader appeal for the upcoming event, anticipating greater participation and impactful outcomes for the Nigerian tourism landscape.
