Fenerbahce Battles Atletico Madrid for Ademola Lookman as Transfer Saga Deepens
)
The future of Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman has become a prominent topic across Europe, with top clubs vying for his signature as the January transfer window nears its close. Reports indicate that Turkish giants Fenerbahce are intensifying their efforts to acquire the Atalanta winger, with Spanish powerhouse Atlético Madrid also entering the race.
Fenerbahce has initiated direct talks with Atalanta in Italy to discuss a potential deal for the Nigerian international. Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reported that the Istanbul-based club is determined to land Lookman, with high-level negotiations currently underway. Fenerbahce's director is reportedly in Italy, actively negotiating with Atalanta and the player's agents to finalize the transfer.
Meanwhile, Atlético Madrid has also shown considerable interest, making several calls to Atalanta to inquire about the deal conditions. While a verbal agreement on a €40 million package has been reported for Lookman's transfer, a crucial sticking point remains the payment terms and conditions, which are yet to be finalized between Atalanta and Fenerbahce.
Atalanta, for their part, are open to considering the transfer, provided that Fenerbahce meets their financial demands and secures an agreement on personal terms with Lookman. Romano noted that Atalanta is not closing the door on this possibility, but the success of the transfer hinges on these key agreements.
It's worth recalling that last summer, clubs like Inter and Bayern Munich, along with some Italian and English clubs, also showed keen interest in Lookman, but Atalanta ultimately decided to retain him. As the transfer deadline rapidly approaches, Fenerbahce remains in close contact with all parties involved, working diligently to finalize the signing amidst the competitive interest from Atlético Madrid.
