Explosive PDP Crisis: Anyanwu Alleges Signature Forgery, Drags Party To DSS, Police, INEC

The upcoming National Elective Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), scheduled for November 15, 2025, faces potential disruption following serious allegations of signature forgery. Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the National Secretary of the PDP and an ally of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has formally petitioned several security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He alleges that his signature was forged on critical communications related to the Ibadan event, specifically a letter sent to INEC regarding the convention.
Senator Anyanwu dispatched petitions to the Department of State Services (DSS) and INEC on October 15, 2025, with a separate petition addressed to the Inspector-General of Police dated October 16, 2025. In these petitions, he vehemently denies having co-authored, authorized, or even being aware of the August 25, 2025 letter that the PDP sent to INEC. This letter was intended to formally inform the electoral umpire about the impending Ibadan Convention, which is set for November 15–16, 2025. According to established regulations, such a crucial communication requires the joint signatures of both the National Chairman of the party, Ambassador Umar Damagum, and the National Secretary, Senator Anyanwu.
The core of Anyanwu's grievance is his claim that the signature attributed to him on the letter to INEC is a forgery. His petition to INEC, dramatically titled “RE: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Year 2025 Elective National Convention: Petition Against Forgery and Cloning of My Signature,” leaves no room for ambiguity. He explicitly stated: “Regrettably, the quoted letter was never signed, authorised, or known to me. It is shocking to have a forged/cloned version of my signature on the letter. I therefore request that this criminal conduct by officers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and their collaborators within INEC be investigated and the culprits prosecuted. Attached herewith is an excerpt of the forged document for ease of reference.”
Echoing these sentiments, his petition to the DSS specifically demanded the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the alleged forgery. He reiterated: “My attention has been drawn to the above-titled official letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) with Ref. No. PDP/DOM/GF.2/Vol.1M/25-140 dated Monday, August 25, 2025, purportedly signed by me. Regrettably, the quoted letter was never signed, authorised or known to me. It is shocking to have a forged/cloned version of my signature on the letter. I therefore request that this criminal conduct by officers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and their collaborators within INEC be investigated and the culprits prosecuted.” Identical language was used in his petition to the Inspector-General of Police, underscoring the seriousness of the allegations and his demand for a thorough investigation and judicial action against those involved in what he describes as a criminal act. The unfolding situation casts a shadow over the legitimacy and smooth conduct of the PDP's upcoming national convention.
