Explosive Allegations: Akume Uncovers Material Diversion in Benue APC Primaries

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and former Benue State Governor, George Akume, has publicly acknowledged receiving disturbing reports concerning the alleged diversion of All Progressives Congress (APC) election materials. These incidents reportedly occurred during the party's recently concluded primaries in Benue State, raising significant concerns within the party.
Akume described these allegations as profoundly disturbing, issuing a stern warning that such practices have the potential to severely undermine confidence in the APC's internal democratic processes. In response to these grave reports, he urged both security agencies and party officials to conduct thorough investigations into the matter, emphasizing the critical importance of holding anyone found culpable fully accountable for their actions.
Despite the seriousness of the allegations, the SGF indicated that he would not delve extensively into the specifics of the matter. He clarified his stance by stating that he was not physically present in Benue State during the primary exercise, explaining, "I was not here during the last election, but I received several reports about diversion of materials and other issues. I do not want to comment extensively because I was not physically present.”
Beyond addressing the allegations, Akume made a direct appeal to all APC members within Benue State, urging them to maintain calm and foster unity within their ranks. He specifically called upon them to rally support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's endeavor to secure a return ticket in the upcoming presidential primary, highlighting the importance of cohesion ahead of national electoral challenges.
Speaking with journalists at the Makurdi Air Force Base Airport, prior to the APC presidential primary, Akume reiterated his plea for peace. He specifically implored aggrieved aspirants and their supporters to refrain from any actions that could exacerbate internal divisions within the party. He underscored the paramount need for sustained unity within the All Progressives Congress as it prepares to navigate the crucial electoral processes that lie ahead.
