Euphoria Season 3 Unpacks Major Plot Twists and Heartfelt Tributes

Euphoria Season 3 returns after a four-year break and takes place five years after the previous season. The story follows the characters as they move into early adulthood and face new life challenges.

The season also addresses the late Angus Cloud, who played Fezco and died in 2023, and even after his death, the show keeps his character alive in a respectful way.

Fezco is revealed to be in prison, serving a 30-year sentence after the Season 2 SWAT raid.

The creator, Sam Levinson, said this choice was made to honor Angus Cloud and keep his character part of the story in a meaningful way.

Levinson spoke about how painful Angus Cloud’s death was, saying it made him reflect on how fragile life is.

He noted that Cloud was one of many people who died from fentanyl overdoses that year, which pushed him to think more about appreciating life and its small moments.

Because of this, Season 3 was created as a tribute to Angus Cloud, with gratitude becoming a key theme throughout the story.

The season premiere also included a tribute at the end. It showed an “In Memoriam” message honoring Angus Cloud, Eric Dane, and producer Kevin Turen.

Dane had finished filming his role before passing away from ALS, while Turen died in 2023 from a cardiac emergency.

The episode also briefly highlighted the dangers of fentanyl, linking the story to real-life events.

Season 3 shows Rue in a darker, more dangerous phase of her life, and it begins with her in Mexico after a risky border crossing while carrying drugs.

She eventually returns to California, but her problems don’t end. Rue reveals that years after high school, Laurie (Martha Kelly) forced her into becoming a drug mule to pay off a massive $43 million debt.

She and Faye (Chloe Cherry) are trapped in a disturbing drug operation where they swallow and painfully retrieve drug-filled balloons.

At the same time, the other characters have moved on in different directions. Lexi now works in Hollywood as an assistant to a showrunner played by Sharon Stone.

Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) is engaged to Nate (Jacob Elordi) and trying to become famous on TikTok, while considering OnlyFans, even as Nate deals with money problems and disagrees with her choices.

Jules (Hunter Schafer) is now a sugar baby, and Maddy (Alexa Demie) works in talent management in Hollywood, building a new life.

Rue begins to explore faith with her sponsor, Ali. At first, she struggles to believe, but she eventually decides to trust in something bigger than herself.

That hope is quickly tested, and while visiting Alamo, a powerful club owner, Rue sees a dancer die from fentanyl-laced drugs.

She is blamed but denies it, instead admitting her dangerous debt to Laurie and her wish to start over.

Then things take a terrifying turn.

Alamo forces Rue into a deadly situation, placing an apple on her head and shooting at it. She survives by inches.

Shaken but alive, she breaks down laughing and crying, overwhelmed with relief.
