Ethiopia Opens Historic National Dialogue Conference in Push for Peace and Unity

Ethiopia has officially launched its long-awaited National Dialogue Conference in Addis Ababa, bringing together more than 4,000 representatives from over 1,200 woredas across the country. The opening ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, senior government officials, diplomats, religious leaders, and elders, highlighting the significance of the initiative.

Organised by the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission (ENDC), the three-week conference seeks to build national consensus through an inclusive process shaped by extensive grassroots consultations nationwide.

The conference will deliberate on eight major thematic pillars identified through public consultations, including state building, governance, constitutional affairs, religious harmony, institutional reforms, human rights, socio-economic development, anti-corruption, and peacebuilding.

Participants have undergone orientation sessions on deliberation procedures, consensus-building methods, and the dialogue framework before the formal discussions commenced. The process is expected to address issues ranging from national identity and federalism to resource management and democratic institution-building.

The National Dialogue Conference is being viewed as a critical step toward addressing Ethiopia's longstanding political, social, and economic challenges. Discussions will also focus on reconciliation, conflict prevention, accountability in public institutions, and creating sustainable mechanisms for lasting peace.

By bringing together diverse voices from across the country, the dialogue aims to chart a shared vision for Ethiopia's future and strengthen national unity through consensus-based solutions.
