East Kilbride Optometrist Celebrated for Decades of Service by Specsavers Founders

Faayza Haq, a dedicated optometrist based in East Kilbride, has been distinguished with the prestigious Doug Perkins medal for clinical excellence. This esteemed award, presented by Specsavers founders Doug and Dame Mary Perkins, recognizes Faayza as one of only five optometrists from across the UK and the Republic of Ireland to receive this honor this year. Winners are celebrated at an exclusive awards dinner, receiving £1,000 in prize money and their medals on stage at the Specsavers Professional Advancement Conference (PAC) held at the ICC in Birmingham. The PAC, a significant event for Optometry and Audiology professionals, has been a leading clinical conference for over three decades.
Specsavers founder Doug Perkins lauded the recipients, stating, “Our mission is to change lives through better sight and hearing. This year’s winners are all shining examples of how our optometrists and audiologists do that every day. Congratulations to all of them.” Faayza’s nomination by her team highlighted her exceptional clinical skills, unwavering commitment to patient care, and her consistent ability to deliver positive and memorable customer experiences. She is also recognized for her willingness to help, support, and mentor her colleagues.
Faayza, who qualified as an optometrist in early 2011 from Glasgow Caledonian University and has primarily worked at Specsavers since, expressed deep honor for the award. She specifically noted how her focus on clinical excellence, particularly through accessible eye care services, has been pivotal. Her Independent Prescribing qualification has significantly expanded the range of services she can offer, proving to be a substantial benefit to her patients. “I have treated many patients with eye conditions that otherwise would have been sent to the hospital to wait for hours sometimes to be seen,” she explained.
Reflecting on her profession, Faayza emphasized, “For me, being an optometrist has always been about giving my patients the best care and ensuring that they feel listened to and taken care of. The team works extremely well together in store to deliver that best outcome for the patient and I’m so happy to be part of that and win this award.” She proudly stated that Specsavers East Kilbride serves as a vital part of the neighbourhood health service, fostering strong relationships within the community and collaborating with key healthcare providers to enhance the quality of life for local residents.
