Eagles Stunned: Guinea-Bissau Delivers Crushing Blow to Nigeria in AFCON Qualifier

The 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign saw a crucial Group L encounter between Nigeria's Super Eagles and Guinea-Bissau, with both teams vying for a single qualifying ticket to the tournament. Djaló sealed a comprehensive 3-0 triumph for Guinea-Bissau, scoring the third goal in the fifth minute of added time, sending the home supporters into celebration.

Nigeria, who had defeated Madagascar 2-1 in their first game, remained in second place with three points, but their goal difference plummeted to -2. With Tanzania having an automatic spot as co-hosts of the 2027 AFCON, only one qualifying ticket is available for Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau, and Madagascar. The result leaves Eric Chelle’s side with significant ground to make up and a pressing need to quickly regroup, improve their results, and address their goal difference in their remaining fixtures to keep their AFCON qualification hopes alive.
