Dramatic Return: Senator Natasha Storms NASS Office, Office Unsealed by Senate

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central in the Senate, is set to resume her legislative duties following the unsealing of her office at the National Assembly on September 23. The unsealing, carried out by the Sergeant at Arms alongside combined security personnel, precedes the Senate's plenary resumption scheduled for October 7. This development marks the end of a six-month suspension that had embroiled the Senator in a significant political and legal dispute.
The suspension, which commenced on March 7, stemmed from a public clash between Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio over seat allocation within the chamber. Despite completing her six-month suspension, an earlier communication from the Senate Clerk had indicated that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan would not be allowed to resume office until ongoing court proceedings related to the matter were concluded. However, the recent decision by the Senate leadership to order the unsealing of her office suggests a resolution or a new direction in the contentious issue.
On the day of the unsealing, supporters gathered outside the National Assembly, cheering Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan as she gained access to her office. Accompanied by activist Peter Akah, also known as Peter for Nigeria, she was celebrated with encouraging words like, "You are taking your place today. Nobody can remove you. God is with you, your people are with you." The suspension itself had sparked widespread public outcry and legal battles, with the Federal High Court notably describing it as "excessive." While the Senate maintained that her suspension was due to gross misconduct and a violation of Senate rules, it firmly denied any relation to sexual harassment allegations she had made against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
