Drake Stuns Toronto Crowd with Surprise Appearance at Vybz Kartel’s Landmark Debut

Canadian superstar Drake made a momentous and unexpected appearance at Vybz Kartel’s first-ever Toronto concert on Sunday night, October 26. The sold-out event, held at Scotiabank Arena, marked a significant occasion for dancehall fans and served as Vybz Kartel's inaugural performance north of the border. Drake, affectionately known as the 6 God, surprised thousands in attendance by popping out to pay homage to the dancehall icon, a moment captured in numerous fan-recorded videos circulating online.
During his appearance, Drake shared a heartfelt recollection of his long-standing appreciation for Vybz Kartel's music. He recounted, “Look at all these people right here, how much we’ve spent with this man’s music right here. I used to hand out flyers outside of a club called Escape just to go inside to the club and listen to your tunes.” He then rallied the crowd, urging them to “make some motherf—king noise” as a city and as a family, setting an electrifying tone for the rest of the night.
Following his tribute, Drake sought permission to perform some of his own hits, which was met with an enthusiastic response. From a balcony in the lower bowl, he delivered an impressive eight-track set, maintaining the high energy of the evening. His performance included a diverse range of popular songs such as “Controlla,” “Which One,” “Hold On We’re Going Home,” “One Dance,” “Rich Baby Daddy,” “Signs,” “Hotline Bling,” and “Nokia.”
This surprise appearance was part of a larger series of Vybz Kartel concerts presented by OVO, with Sunday being the first of three planned shows in Toronto. Vybz Kartel is scheduled to return to the stage on Monday, October 27, and Thursday, October 30. This also wasn't the first time the two artists had shared a stage; Drake and Vybz Kartel had previously linked up over the summer at the Wireless Festival in London, further solidifying their professional admiration.
The event comes shortly after Drake celebrated his 39th birthday on October 24, marked by a trip to the Bahamas with friends and family. In addition to his recent birthday, Drake added six new diamond plaques from the RIAA to his already extensive collection of accolades, underscoring his continued dominance in the music industry. Meanwhile, fans eagerly await any news regarding his anticipated project, "Iceman," which currently remains without a release date.
