Coldplay's UK Tour Takes Off: Martin's Superfan Reveal & Wembley's Historic Shows!

Coldplay is set to embark on the second UK leg of their extensive Music Of The Spheres world tour, kicking off with two sold-out nights in Hull before heading to a monumental ten-night residency at Wembley Stadium. Frontman Chris Martin, known for his eclectic music tastes, revealed his admiration for artists like Charli XCX and Pulp, noting their ability to reset the bar for him in terms of musical impact and connection, prompting him to continuously seek new creative directions for Coldplay.
A significant highlight of Coldplay's Wembley residency is their commitment to sustainability. These shows will mark a world first for a stadium concert, being fully powered by 100 percent renewable energy. The band, including Guy Berryman, Jonny Bucklad, and Will Champion, has long championed eco-friendly touring practices and has implemented innovative measures for these performances. Fans will contribute to the power generation through a kinetic dance floor and energy-creating bikes, while their LED wristbands, made from plant-based, compostable materials, will be refurbished and reused for every show, with batteries recycled at the end of their life cycle.
These environmental efforts have led to a 59 percent reduction in CO2 emissions compared to the band’s 2016 tour. Coldplay has also planted 10 million trees, with an additional three million slated for the Amazon, to offset unavoidable emissions. Their Higher Power Farm in the west of England, featuring a 111.6kWp solar panel array, feeds clean energy into the grid. Furthermore, helium used in their stage inflatables is reused, and ten percent of all net tour revenue is dedicated to charitable causes, including global ocean clean-up initiatives. By the tour's conclusion on September 8 at Wembley, Coldplay will have performed 225 shows across five continents since March 2022.
Beyond Coldplay's environmental endeavors, the music world continues to buzz with other notable events. Shawn Mendes introduced Niall Horan as a special guest at his O2 Arena headline gig for a duet of 'This Town'. Mendes humorously recounted a near-miss with public transport that almost jeopardized his arrival, and movingly shared his long-standing friendship with Horan, who he considers an 'older brother' from his early days in the industry.
Zara Larsson was seen taking a well-deserved rest backstage before a US gig, where she's supporting Tate McRae on her Miss Possessive world tour. The Swedish singer, dazzling in hot pink boots and a golden tasselled skirt, has also been busy releasing new singles 'Midnight Sun' and 'Crush', which have been well-received. Her fifth album, also titled 'Midnight Sun', is slated for release next month, followed by a European tour in the autumn.
K-pop sensation Blackpink made history as only the second girl band ever to headline Wembley Stadium, following in the footsteps of the Spice Girls. The four-piece captivated the stadium crowds with two high-energy shows, showcasing their individual successes since their last UK appearance at BST Hyde Park in 2023. Rose's collaboration 'APT' with Bruno Mars was a major hit, and all members—Jisoo, Lisa, and Jennie—performed their solo tracks alongside Blackpink favorites like 'Ddu-Du Ddu-Du' and 'Jump', fueling anticipation for their next album.
In film news, Sophie Turner and Kit Harington reunited for the new film 'The Dreadful', a reunion that proved awkward due to their years of playing close relatives in 'Game Of Thrones'. Despite Sophie's recommendation for Kit and the quality of the script, both actors found their romantic scenes, especially the first kiss, intensely uncomfortable, with Sophie recalling them both 'retching' due to the bizarre dynamic.
Meanwhile, music icon Billy Joel is closing his motorcycle shop in Long Island next month and plans to auction his bike collection. This decision comes after his diagnosis with normal pressure hydrocephalus in May, a brain disorder that has impacted his health.
Natalie Imbruglia is also working on a new album in a South London studio with Andy Burrows of Razorlight. Inspired by her recent tour with The Corrs, the 'Torn' singer hopes to release the record next year, with plans for an accompanying tour. Discussions are also underway for special celebrations in 2027, marking the 30th anniversary of her iconic hit 'Torn'.
Lastly, Ariana Grande's boyfriend, Ethan Slater, who spent over a year in the UK filming 'Wicked' as Boq, is being courted by West End producers. He has an open-ended offer to play Emcee in the acclaimed production of 'Cabaret', a role previously held by stars like Eddie Redmayne and Jake Shears. Although he initially declined, the opportunity remains on the table, with other London productions also expressing interest in the Broadway actor.
