Charli XCX Shocks Fans with Surprise SNL Cameo During Role Model's 'Sally'

Singer-songwriter Role Model, born Tucker Pillsbury, made his highly anticipated musical guest debut on NBC's long-running sketch comedy show, Saturday Night Live, on October 11. The 28-year-old artist performed two tracks from the deluxe edition of his second album, Kansas Anymore, after being introduced by host and former SNL cast member, Amy Poehler.
Role Model opened his set with his breakout hit, “Sally, When the Wine Runs Out,” a song that recently achieved the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Adult Alternative Airplay chart. The performance was set against a rustic barnyard backdrop, adorned with haystacks and a wooden ladder, as Role Model took the stage dressed in a brown shirt and distinctive sparkly blue jeans. Known for inviting celebrities or fans to portray “Sally” in past live renditions, his SNL debut continued this tradition.
Mid-song, Role Model called out, “Where’s my Sally tonight?” to the surprise of the audience, Charli XCX then confidently strutted onto the stage. She was dressed in a black skirt, dark sunglasses, and a “Max’s Kansas City” T-shirt. The two artists shared a playful interaction, dancing together on stage before Charli XCX playfully slipped her sunglasses onto Role Model’s face, blew him a kiss, and made her exit.
The appearance sparked immediate speculation among fans on social media, particularly concerning Charli XCX’s “Max’s Kansas City” T-shirt. Many interpreted it as a subtle jab at pop superstar Taylor Swift, who frequently visits Kansas City with her fiancé, Travis Kelce. This speculation intensified amid existing rumors of tension between Charli XCX and Swift, especially with the recent release of Swift’s track “Actually Romantic” from her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, which some listeners have perceived as a direct response to Charli XCX’s song “Everything Is Romantic” from her album Brat.
For his second performance of the night, Role Model transitioned to a more subdued mood, delivering an emotional rendition of the mellow track “Some Protector” while strumming an acoustic guitar. The performances capped off a memorable SNL debut for the artist.
