Bucks Secure Key Player with Hefty $45M, 4-Year Extension for Green

Milwaukee Bucks guard AJ Green has secured a significant four-year, $45 million fully guaranteed contract extension with the franchise, as confirmed by his agent Matt Bollero of ProMondo Sports. This lucrative long-term pact keeps Green under contract with the Bucks through the 2029-30 season, preventing him from entering free agency next summer.
Green's journey to this substantial deal is a remarkable success story for the Bucks. An Iowa native, he went undrafted in 2022, subsequently earning a two-way contract, then a standard NBA deal, and now a major long-term commitment. This commitment is particularly critical given that the 26-year-old has emerged as the full-time starter for head coach Doc Rivers heading into the new campaign, showcasing his growth and importance to the team.
Green's performance on the court has steadily improved. Last season, he scored 541 points, a significant increase from the 406 points he accumulated in his first two NBA seasons, averaging 7.4 points per game overall. He is widely recognized as one of the elite shooters in the league, boasting a career 42% 3-point shooting percentage and maintaining at least 40% from beyond the arc in all three seasons of his NBA career.
Despite only starting eight regular-season games in his career previously, Green stepped up during the first round of the playoffs in April. Doc Rivers inserted him into the starting lineup for a crucial Game 5, where Green delivered with 19 points and played 46 minutes. His playoff production saw an increase to 11.0 points per game while shooting an impressive 51% from three-point range during a strong postseason run. He has since continued this momentum, earning a starting spot in all four of the Bucks' preseason games this month.
Further emphasizing his shooting prowess, Green's 42.7% 3-point mark last season ranked as the sixth-best among players who attempted at least 300 3-pointers, according to ESPN Research. Additionally, he shot an exceptional 44.9% on catch-and-shoot 3-pointers, placing him fifth-best among players with at least 250 attempts, underscoring his value as a perimeter threat for the Milwaukee Bucks.
