Breaking: Kano Rep Jibrin's Strategic Move to APC Fuels Tinubu's Re-election Hopes

Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, representative for Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has officially declared his defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). This announcement comes two months after his expulsion from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), where he faced allegations of anti-party activities and failure to pay membership dues.
Jibrin's political silence following his expulsion had sparked widespread speculation about his future alignment, particularly given his known close relationship with President Bola Tinubu. On Monday, he made the declaration via his verified social media platforms, stating that his supporters had collectively decided to leave the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya movement to join the APC and actively campaign for President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Highlighting the overwhelming support for his decision, Jibrin said, "Today, in a show of solidarity, I was warmly received by thousands of my constituents in my hometown of Kofa, Bebeji, Kano. The gathering resolved to leave the NNPP/Kwankwasiyya, join the APC, and endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office." He added that approximately 2,000 Islamic clerics from his constituency conducted special prayers for President Tinubu and for the advancement of peace and development across Kiru/Bebeji, Kano State, and Nigeria as a whole.
In video footage from the event, the fourth-term lawmaker explained to the assembled crowd that his decision to move to the APC alongside his supporters was meant to rectify a past error of defecting alone. He asserted, "I decided to bring this crowd to correct my earlier mistake. I don’t want anyone to say I don’t have supporters," emphasizing the collective nature of his recent political transition.
