Boxing Legend's Manager Seeks Truth in Tragic Death After Body Discovery

Ricky Hatton, the beloved boxing legend, received a heartfelt farewell in Greater Manchester, nearly a month after his tragic passing on September 14. The news of his death had sent shockwaves through the world of sport, as thousands gathered to line the streets and mourn at Manchester Cathedral, where notable figures such as Wayne Rooney, Liam Gallagher, and Tyson Fury were among the attendees.
His manager, Paul Speak, was the one to discover Hatton deceased at his home. Speak, who possessed a key to the residence, had intended to take Hatton to the airport for a flight to Dubai. Recalling the somber discovery, Speak described finding the lights off, which he initially found strange. After entering and calling out for Hatton, he heard music from upstairs, where he then found the boxer. Speak described being in a "state of shock and confusion and loss" before alerting the authorities.
Despite Hatton's well-documented past struggles with mental health, Speak insists that his friend "did not intend to do it." He expressed a strong desire to "get the truth out" to prevent speculation, pending an inquest into Hatton's death. Speak highlighted that Hatton, at 46, was "in a really good place" prior to his passing and had been actively making numerous plans for the future. These included arrangements to take his daughters to an Oasis concert, plans for a trip to Thailand for a WBC convention and a subsequent holiday, and a booked flight to Tenerife for Christmas.
Family and friends echoed Speak's sentiment regarding Hatton's positive state of mind. Speak further noted Hatton's recent visit with his mother, where they shared a "big hug and some love," and his intention to see his father upon his return from Dubai. Hatton was also looking forward to his daughters, who had never seen him box, finally witnessing him in action. Speak acknowledged that had this tragedy occurred a decade earlier, during Hatton's more intense struggles, it "wouldn't have been as big a shock" as it was now, given his recent positive outlook and future aspirations.
