Bond 26 Shakes Things Up: Iconic Franchise Reboot Taps 'Game of Thrones' Alum

The hunt for the next James Bond is officially underway and it's being overseen by one of the most prolific and impressive casting directors in Hollywood as per Variety.

Gold is best known for her work on Game of Thrones, where she helped fill out one of the biggest casts in modern television history and absolutely nailed it every single time.

So the fact she's involved tells us that Amazon MGM are taking this whole thing very seriously.

Gold has a terrific pedigree, because alongside Game of Thrones, she also worked on The Crown, Les Misérables, The Martian, Conclave, and five Star Wars films.

She also cast Daisy Ridley as Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which is a nice little reminder that a big role doesn't necessarily need to go to an established star, but rather an actor can become a star in the right role.

Amazon MGM Studios said in a statement,“The search for the next James Bond is underway. While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right.”

This public commitment to a rigorous and carefully managed casting process underscores the seriousness with which Amazon MGM is approaching the future of the beloved franchise, aiming to find an actor who can carry the legacy forward.

The new Bond film will be directed by Denis Villeneuve, which is still something we can scarcely believe.

He is such a huge get for a massive IP movie like this. In the last decade, Villeneuve has been churning out masterpiece after masterpiece, like Dune, Dune: Part Two, Arrival, Blade Runner 2049, and Sicario.

The film will be produced by Amy Pascal, the former head of Sony Pictures who had a close relationship with their Spider-Man films, and David Heyman, who helped build the Harry Potter movie franchise.

Steven Knight, creator of Peaky Blinders, is writing the script, while Tanya Lapointe, who worked on Dune, is executive producing. So it is an absolutely dynamite team behind the scenes.

While the identity of the next James Bond remains a subject of intense speculation, the rumor mill has been churning for months, with various names such as Jacob Elordi, Callum Turner, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson frequently being touted.

Even former Bond actor Pierce Brosnan has publicly pitched the idea of returning to the role as an older, more weathered 007.

However, industry insiders and sources suggest that the role might ultimately be entrusted to a relatively unknown actor.

This strategic approach would allow the inherent strength and appeal of the James Bond character itself to remain the primary draw.

While reserving opportunities for big-name stars to take on villainous or significant supporting roles, ensuring the franchise continues to evolve while maintaining its iconic and timeless appeal.

Fans are encouraged to stay tuned for further updates on this much-anticipated cinematic event.
