Bizarre ‘Bugonia’ Demands Bald Heads for Exclusive Screenings: A Shocker for Film Fans!

Filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos's latest cinematic offering, "Bugonia," is set to captivate audiences with an unconventional early screening event ahead of its wide release on October 24. A special showing will take place in Los Angeles on Monday, October 20, at 8 p.m. at the Culver Theater. However, attendees wishing to experience this advanced viewing must adhere to a striking and highly unusual dress code: they must arrive either bald or with their heads completely shaved before entering the auditorium.
The peculiar stipulation was widely publicized by DoLA on its Instagram page on October 17, confirming the requirements for the free advanced screening. The post explicitly stated, "Are you bald, or willing to shave your head? On Monday, 10/20, head to the Culver Theater for a FREE advanced screening of ‘Bugonia’ – the new Focus Features fever dream from Yorgos Lanthimos, starring Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons.” To facilitate this unique entry condition, a barber will be on-site at the venue starting at 6 p.m., offering complimentary head shaves for those willing to comply. It has also been confirmed that a portion of the event will be filmed, adding another layer of intrigue for participants. While the screening itself is free, admission is on a first-come, first-served basis and requires prior RSVP. All prospective audience members must be 18 years of age or older to attend.
This distinctive requirement serves as a direct homage to Emma Stone’s character in "Bugonia." In the film, Stone portrays a bald-headed CEO who becomes entangled in a bizarre kidnapping plot and is subsequently suspected of being an alien. The film features a notable cast alongside Stone and Plemons, including Aidan Delbis, Stavros Halkias, and Alicia Silverstone. The narrative promises to deliver the unique and thought-provoking style characteristic of Lanthimos's previous works.
"Bugonia" made its grand debut at the prestigious Venice International Film Festival in August and has since embarked on an extensive festival circuit, garnering attention at events such as Telluride, San Sebastián, AFI, and Busan, among others. Its forthcoming release is eagerly anticipated by critics and fans alike. This project marks the fourth collaboration between the celebrated director Yorgos Lanthimos and Academy Award-winning actress Emma Stone, a highly successful partnership that has previously yielded critical acclaim for films like 2018’s “The Favourite,” 2023’s “Poor Things,” and 2024’s “Kinds of Kindness.” Stone’s performances in their joint ventures have been particularly distinguished, earning her a Best Supporting Actress nomination for “The Favourite” and an Oscar win for Best Actress for her transformative role in “Poor Things.”
