Bitcoin's Jaw-Dropping Surge: Eyeing $80K Amid Regulatory Boost & US Buyback Hopes!
Bitcoin has soared past $79,000, sustaining its largest rally in years due to positive regulatory news and a U.S. Treasury announcement. Analysts predict the cryptocurrency could reach $100,000 or even $126,000 by year-end, noting the current bear market is the shallowest on record. This resurgence follows key legislative support and favorable economic policy shifts.
Bitcoin has experienced a significant surge, roaring past $79,000 on Friday and sustaining its most substantial run in years. This impressive rally is attributed to a combination of positive regulatory news and a key announcement from the U.S. Treasury. The leading cryptocurrency reached a high of $79,319 before a slight dip, settling around $77,584, marking an over 7% rise in a single day and an approximate 23% increase over the past week. This upward trajectory follows a period where Bitcoin traded below $65,000 for most of July and June.
Market analysts are increasingly bullish on Bitcoin's future performance. Standard Chartered’s Global Head of Digital Assets Research, Geoffrey Kendrick, indicated on Friday that a previous forecast of $100,000 by year-end might be too conservative. Kendrick suggested that as investors recall the rapid acceleration of prices, particularly after the 12-month mark following the all-time high, an overshoot towards $126,000 before the year's end is plausible. He further noted that Bitcoin's current bear market has been the shallowest on record, with analysts observing a dampened volatility this year compared to previous periods.
Historically, Bitcoin notched a record high of $126,080 last year but subsequently plunged after the largest liquidation event in crypto history, which saw over $19 billion in leveraged bets closed. Since then, various factors have impacted Bitcoin's price, including the Federal Reserve's reluctance to lower interest rates and broader geopolitical headwinds, such as conflict in the Middle East. However, recent developments have provided significant positive momentum.
Among the key drivers is positive regulatory news. Although a vote on the much-anticipated Crypto Clarity Act has been delayed until September, President Donald Trump expressed strong support for the bill on Wednesday, labeling it a “very, very powerful” piece of legislation and urging lawmakers to pass it. This proposed law aims to establish a clear framework for classifying digital assets as securities, commodities, or payment stablecoins, a legislative clarity that the crypto industry has long sought.
Furthermore, earlier in the week, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that the department would at least double the size of its long-dated bond buybacks. This news led to a reduction in yields, which in turn lowers the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding assets such as Bitcoin and gold. Generally, lower long-term yields tend to support a 'risk-on' sentiment in the market, further bolstering Bitcoin's appeal to investors.
