Beauty Treatment Horror: 'Posh' £100 Eyebag Fix Leaves Face Permanently Damaged

Sharon, a seasoned recipient of cosmetic procedures, encountered a harrowing experience after opting for a heavily discounted EndoliftX laser treatment. Enticed by an offer of three areas of treatment for just £100, a significant reduction from the typical thousands of pounds, she initially dismissed her cousin's expensive EndoliftX experience in L.A. as a red flag. Sharon had hoped the procedure would finally address a lower-sitting eyebrow, a consequence of a teenage injury, after trying various other treatments like Botox, threads, and fillers.
Despite her extensive background in aesthetics and her comfort with being a "guinea pig" for discounted procedures, Sharon sensed trouble the moment the treatment began. She described feeling her skin burning and experiencing intense pain, far exceeding her high pain threshold. The practitioner's assurances that the discomfort was normal did little to quell Sharon's growing concern about her training. Immediately after the procedure, Sharon was shocked by the rapid swelling and bruising, which the clinic staff dismissed, advising her to take Ibuprofen.
Upon returning home, Sharon's partner was horrified by her appearance, comparing her swollen, bruised face to having been "punched." That night, she struggled with sleep and watched in dismay as the swelling spread, making her unrecognisable. Her fears were confirmed the next day as the bruising darkened and the pain persisted, forcing her to cancel a party appearance due to her appearance. The pain subsided after a few days, but the lasting effects were more severe. Sharon was left with significant bruising and swelling for months, followed by persistent patches of post-inflammatory pigmentation, which a medical professional advised could last a lifetime without specialist treatment. This unfortunate outcome impacted her job prospects, as she had to attend an interview with a black eye, feeling her appearance played a role in not getting the job.
Sharon’s story, though personal, is echoed by experts who warn of a growing public safety crisis in the beauty industry. Antonia Mariconda, Founder of The Safety in Beauty Campaign, highlights the "influx of counterfeit medical and cosmetic products," which expose unsuspecting consumers to harmful substances and jeopardize ethical practitioners. Patients are often misled by familiar-sounding names and deceptive before-and-after photos, some of which are stolen from legitimate marketing materials. Dr. Priya Verma, a registered ENDOLIFTX® practitioner, emphasizes the critical need to verify credentials and ensure that only approved devices, which have undergone proper safety testing, are used. Counterfeit machines, despite appearing similar, lack safety data and can cause permanent scarring.
While Sharon has not been entirely deterred from cosmetic enhancements, her experience has instilled a newfound caution. She acknowledges the efficacy of genuine EndoliftX procedures but laments the harm caused by counterfeit devices. Her advice to others is unequivocal: "Don’t be tempted by cheap prices – they’re cheap for a reason." She urges individuals to meticulously research the device, confirm clinic regulation, and verify practitioner training, concluding with a stark warning: "If something feels off, walk away. Your face isn’t worth the gamble."
