Ariana Grande Drops Teaser: 'Hate That I Made You Love Me' Video Features Surprising Guest Star

Pop sensation Ariana Grande is officially ushering in her highly anticipated "Petal" era, marked by the release of an eerie new teaser for the music video of her forthcoming single, "Hate That I Made You Love Me." The clip, shared on Wednesday, May 27, features actor Justin Long in a car, whose rearview mirror mysteriously reveals Grande's intense gaze, building suspense as a trap-adjacent beat plays. The teaser concludes with the single's title displayed in a distinct yellow font, reminiscent of the 1986 film "The Hitcher," which was later remade in 2007. Grande also tagged Christian Breslauer, her frequent collaborator who previously directed her MTV Video Music Award-winning "Bright Days Ahead" short film in 2025, hinting at his involvement in this new visual.
Justin Long's appearance in the new music video continues a well-established tradition for Grande, who often casts renowned actors as her co-stars. This practice has seen a string of famous faces, including Jonathan Bennett in 2019's "Thank U, Next," Charles Melton in 2020's "Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored," Penn Badgley in 2024's "The Boy Is Mine," and Evan Peters in "We Can't Be Friends" from the same year, all making memorable guest appearances.
"Hate That I Made You Love Me" is set to be the lead single from the Grammy winner's eighth studio album, titled "Petal." This upcoming album, executive produced by Grande herself alongside ILYA, marks her first studio release since her acclaimed Oscar-nominated performances as G(a)linda the Good Witch in 2024's "Wicked" and 2025's "Wicked: For Good." Her previous LP, "Eternal Sunshine," which debuted atop the Billboard 200 in 2024, spawned two Billboard Hot 100 chart-topping hits: "Yes, And?" and "We Can't Be Friends." Notably, "Eternal Sunshine" returned to the top of the Billboard 200 the following year after the release of its "Brighter Days Ahead" deluxe edition, which featured the Hot 100 top 20 hit "Twilight Zone," peaking at No. 18.
Fans can anticipate the arrival of "Petal" on July 31, strategically placed amidst her extensive 41-date "Eternal Sunshine Tour." This tour, her first since 2019, is scheduled to commence on June 6 at California’s Oakland Arena, with stops in major cities across both North America and Europe, culminating in a 10-show residency at London’s O2 Arena. The excitement builds as Grande prepares to deliver new music and embark on a global concert series.
