Anthropic Faces Historic $1.5 Billion Copyright Settlement!
A significant federal ruling was made Thursday in San Francisco, where U.S. District Judge William Alsup approved a $1.5 billion settlement between the artificial intelligence company Anthropic and a coalition of authors and publishers. The settlement addresses allegations that Anthropic illegally pirated nearly half a million books to train its advanced AI chatbots, marking a pivotal moment in the ongoing debate surrounding AI development and intellectual property rights.
The agreement, reached after the two sides worked to satisfy Judge Alsup's concerns, stipulates that authors and publishers will receive approximately $3,000 for each of the 465,000 books covered by the settlement.
