Burkina Faso Terror Attack Sparks Calls for Investigation and Heightened Security

Samuel Abdulai Jinapor,Ranking Member on Parliament’s Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Committee, has called for stronger government action following the deadly terrorist attack in Titao, Burkina Faso, which claimed the lives of eight Ghanaians.

While welcoming the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ travel advisory urging caution in high-risk areas, Jinapor emphasized that advisories alone are insufficient.

He argued that many Ghanaians rely on cross-border trade for their daily livelihoods, making it unrealistic to expect citizens to strictly follow the warning.

He urged the government to implement urgent security measures to protect Ghanaians traveling to volatile regions.

Jinapor also described the attack as a clear intelligence failure and called for an independent inquiry to investigate the circumstances, assemble facts, and improve Ghana’s preparedness for future incidents.

He highlighted the need to strengthen regional intelligence cooperation, citing the ECOWAS-backed Accra Initiative as an effective platform for sharing information among West African states.

Jinapor warned that Ghana’s response must be carefully managed to avoid being perceived as taking sides, which could potentially worsen tensions with extremist groups operating in Burkina Faso.
