Adele's Silver Screen Surprise: Pop Icon Joins Tom Ford's 'Cry To Heaven' Adaptation

British singer and multiple Grammy Award winner, Adele, is reportedly embarking on a new creative chapter with her anticipated acting debut in Tom Ford’s upcoming film adaptation of Anne Rice’s 1982 novel, ‘Cry to Heaven’. The 37-year-old superstar is expected to join an impressive ensemble cast in the project, with renowned designer and filmmaker Tom Ford serving as writer, director, and producer through his Fade to Black production company.
The narrative of ‘Cry to Heaven’ is set in 18th-century Italy, unfolding the compelling story of a Venetian nobleman and a castrati singer from Calabria. Both characters navigate the intensely competitive and dramatic world of opera, with the film poised to explore profound themes of identity, ambition, and artistic expression against a meticulously crafted historical backdrop.
Currently, the film is in pre-production, with activities underway in London and Rome. Principal photography is slated to commence in mid-January 2026, targeting a late fall 2026 release. Industry reports suggest a star-studded lineup, featuring talents such as Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ciarán Hinds, George MacKay, Mark Strong, Colin Firth, Paul Bettany, Thandiwe Newton, Hunter Schafer, Theodore Pellerin, Daryl McCormack, Cassian Bilton, and Lux Pascal, among others.
This venture marks Tom Ford’s third feature film, following the critical acclaim of ‘A Single Man’ and ‘Nocturnal Animals’. A Single Man garnered widespread praise and earned Colin Firth an Oscar nomination, while Nocturnal Animals secured the Grand Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival. Both films were celebrated for their distinctive visual style, emotional depth, and strong performances, setting a high bar for Ford’s latest directorial effort.
For Adele, a globally acclaimed artist known for chart-topping hits like “Easy On Me,” “Oh My God,” and “I Drink Wine”, this project represents a significant expansion of her artistic repertoire. While her representatives have yet to officially confirm the casting, this role would mark her first major acting performance, adding another monumental achievement to her illustrious career, which has largely seen her maintain a relatively low public profile.
