100 Episodes In: 'Ghosts' Shakes Up Supernatural Formula in Exclusive Reveal

The highly anticipated sixth season of the CBS comedy "Ghosts" is set to premiere with a special one-hour Halloween episode on October 29, followed by another holiday special on December 10. Fans received an exclusive sneak peek at New York Comic-Con during a panel featuring stars Devan Chandler Long, Rebecca Wisocky, Sheila Carrasco, and Utkarsh Ambudkar, alongside co-showrunner Joe Wiseman. Collider's Rachel Leishman interviewed the cast to uncover exciting details about the upcoming premiere, the show's milestone 100th episode, and a significant cast alteration.

A key revelation for the Halloween special is the introduction of Hetty's (Rebecca Wisocky) mustachioed sister, Margaret (Maria Thayer). Wisocky expressed her delight about Thayer joining the cast, describing her as a "delightful and such a lovely, kind person, and such a wonderful sense of humor, and a really nice foil for Hetty." She also teased that the special will feature "unexpected things," a "new form of ghost," and an unprecedented level of special effects, surpassing all previous five seasons combined. Devan Chandler Long humorously added that "We spent our budget on the entire episode," emphasizing the scale of the production.

Beyond the initial specials, "Ghosts" will celebrate its 100th episode with Season 6, Episode 6, when weekly episodes resume in early 2027. This landmark episode will see the ghosts' beloved reality series, "It's Getting Hot in Here," filming its own 100th episode at Woodstone Mansion. Devan Chandler Long hinted at a major moment for his character, Thor, saying, "He gets to meet his heroes. I mean, it's a big deal for Thor. This is huge. This is, like, you know, front-row seats of the All-Star game."

Season 6 will also feature a notable shift in dynamics due to star Rose McIver (Sam) taking maternity leave, leading to Sam's temporary absence from the mansion to film a movie in Australia. This change prompts a new "buddy comedy" dynamic between Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) and Kyle (Ben Feldman), who will be living at Woodstone full-time. Ambudkar noted, "It's a different show. Ben Feldman and I are now in a buddy comedy, whereas Rose and I were very much in a romantic comedy." The cast expressed their affection for Feldman, despite light-hearted teasing.

Furthermore, Sheila Carrasco shared insights into her character, Flower, revealing that her "brain cells have woken up just a little bit." The season will explore Flower's fluctuating lucidity and delve into a "pretty, pretty great" and "revealing" backstory that will enlighten viewers about "why she is the way she is." Carrasco is excited to "experiment with a totally different side of her," suggesting that this newfound awareness has always been "bubbling underneath the surface."

Reflecting on the show's success, Carrasco expressed immense pride and emotion when asked to compare "Ghosts" to the US remake of "The Office." She shared that "The Office" is her comfort show, and being part of "Ghosts" is a dream come true, fulfilling her long-held desire to be in an ensemble comedy and a UK reboot. She highlighted the special feeling of being part of a show that could become a "comfort show" for fans for years to come.
