'Your votes in 2028 might be less than your total petitions and pressers' - Billa Alamzy to NPP

The Member of Parliament for the Chiana-Paga Constituency, Nikyema Billa Alamzy, has criticised the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) over what he describes as unnecessary petitions and press conferences.

Speaking in an interview on GHOne TV on May 19, 2025, Billa Alamzy said the NPP has been organising press conferences and submitting petitions in response to virtually every action taken by the John Dramani Mahama administration.

According to him, this approach could lead to an even more devastating defeat than what the NPP experienced in the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.

“I only pray that you change your tactics. Don’t come in with the ‘sisi fia no’ campaign again because, with that, you might not even get 20%. The way your party is going now, you are not reorganising. You’re not reorganising at all.

“If I’m right, by tomorrow, or even this evening, you will organise another press conference. If you’re not petitioning, you’re holding press conferences instead of focusing on rebuilding your party,” he said.

He added, “I can tell you that if you don’t stop the press conferences and petitions, by the end of the day in 2028, your petitions and press conferences might outnumber the votes you receive. Because we are managing this country very well.”

The Chiana-Paga MP reiterated that the NPP’s repeated recourse to petitions and media briefings is making them an ineffective opposition.

“You should be a worthy opposition, put us on our toes. But press conferences and petitions over Sammy Gyamfi allegedly giving someone money? Is that the work of an opposition party? What crime has been committed?” he asked.
