Yakoyo residents accuse woman of alleged harassment, threat to life, forgery

The Yakoyo Community Development Committee (CDC) in Ifo Local Council of Ogun State has raised the alarm over what they describe as “continuous harassment, intimidation, and threats by a former CDC Executive, Mrs. Bolanle Funmilayo Braimoh-Obaseki.”

In an open letter dated July 6, 2025, and addressed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, the community leaders also called on the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, to investigate and restrain police officers allegedly being used to harass community members.
However, as of press time, Mrs. Obaseki had not responded to the allegations.

According to the letter signed by the CDC Chairman, Olaonipekun Okunowo, and the General Secretary, Ganiyu Bisiriyu, Mrs. Obaseki, who once served as the Secretary and Legal Adviser of the community committee, has allegedly been acting in the interest of land grabbers.

“She has constantly used the police to harass, extort, and arrest leaders and residents of the community based on false claims,” the letter stated.
“She also parades herself as a barrister, even though we have found no evidence that she has been called to the Nigerian Bar.”

The community claimed that the crisis began as far back as December 2021, when one Isiaka Azeez reportedly declared himself the Baale of Yakoyo and entered the community with three others. The group allegedly attacked residents in a bid to claim land. Mrs. Obaseki, who was reportedly injured during the incident, has since aligned herself with the group, the CDC alleged.

The community leaders say that despite an ongoing court case at the Ogun State High Court (Suit No. HCF/200/2022) regarding the ownership of Yakoyo land, the group has continued to act outside the law.

The CDC further alleged that the Olofin of Isheri, Oba Bamgbade, conferred the chieftaincy title of “Yeye Okin of Isheri” on Mrs. Obaseki, while Azeez allegedly pushed for the renaming of Johnson Street in the community. These moves they claim were aimed at creating confusion and unrest.
“Mrs. Obaseki has used the police to make several false allegations against us, and we have been summoned multiple times to Alagbon, Zone 2, and Ojodu Abiodun Police Station,” they wrote.

Despite efforts to resolve the crisis through petitions to traditional and government authorities which including the Alake of Egbaland, the Ogun State House of Assembly, and the Governor’s Office, the harassment has continued, they said.

The community is now appealing to the police authorities to take immediate action to prevent further unrest in Yakoyo.
