XRP ETF Hopes Ignited & Dashed: Experts Divided on New Proposal's Future

The cryptocurrency market is buzzing with diverse developments, from innovative exchange-traded fund (ETF) filings to significant price predictions and critical support level analyses for prominent digital assets. The landscape for XRP, Shiba Inu, and Ethereum illustrates the dynamic and often contentious nature of this evolving financial sector.
Regarding XRP, Amplify Investments has recently submitted a filing for an XRP ETF that introduces a novel income-generating approach. This proposed product aims to provide investors with exposure to the Ripple-linked cryptocurrency's price while simultaneously generating income through the sale of options. Uniquely, the fund will not directly hold XRP tokens but instead will invest in other ETFs that track the token's spot price. It plans to sell call options on these XRP ETFs, typically set up to 10% above the current price. This strategy allows investors to earn income from the premiums generated by selling these options, effectively "renting out" some of their options. While this setup offers a cushion against potential losses during sharp downturns in XRP's price, it also caps upside gains at the strike price if XRP experiences a substantial surge. The investment carries general market risks as well as specific risks associated with XRP, including high volatility, potential supply shocks, and network-related issues.
The broader "XRP ETF race" in the U.S. continues to intensify. Currently, the market primarily offers leveraged or futures-based XRP ETFs, such as Teucrium 2x Long Daily XRP ETF and ProShares Ultra XRP ETF. However, there is widespread expectation that the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will soon approve a series of spot XRP ETFs from major issuers like Franklin Templeton, Bitwise, 21Shares, and Grayscale later this year. Polymarket bettors have even assigned an 86% probability for SEC approval of XRP ETFs in 2025.
However, expert opinions on the potential success and impact of XRP ETFs are sharply divided. Cryptocurrency analyst and industry observer Adriano Feria holds a bearish outlook, predicting that the launch of spot ETFs could mark "the beginning of the end" for XRP. Feria is convinced that these products will ultimately expose a lack of genuine institutional demand for the token. Conversely, Canary Capital CEO Steven McClurg offers a highly optimistic forecast, projecting that XRP ETFs could attract as much as $5 billion in inflows during their inaugural month. McClurg bases his optimism on the success of CME Group's regulated futures that track XRP's price, noting that these derivatives have rapidly surpassed $1 billion in open interest. He further argues that XRP stands as the second most recognized cryptocurrency in Wall Street circles, trailing only Bitcoin.
Despite this bullish sentiment, two major players in the cryptocurrency ETF sector, BlackRock and Fidelity, have conspicuously remained on the sidelines. BlackRock has reportedly confirmed that it has no immediate intention to launch an XRP ETF, a potentially concerning signal given its significant presence with the iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (BTC) and iShares Ethereum Trust ETF (ETHA). Fidelity, the second-largest player, has also refrained from filing for an XRP ETF, even after pursuing a Solana-based one. Nonetheless, the SEC's table is currently overflowing with 92 crypto ETF filings, including 15 pending XRP ETF applications from a variety of smaller players, and eight for Solana. ETF watcher Nate Geraci, renowned for accurately predicting the underestimation of demand for Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs, believes that investor demand for spot XRP and Solana ETFs is similarly being severely misread by the market. As major managers like WisdomTree see their XRP ETF decision pushed back, the collective anticipation points to a pivotal period for crypto asset classes.
Meanwhile, the Shiba Inu (SHIB) token is currently navigating a critical period, stuck in a support loop while eyeing potential breakout levels. SHIB is trading near $0.00001238, firmly holding a long-tested support level at $0.00001159. This particular support has historically served as a turning point multiple times over the past year, from last September to midsummer. Technical analysis of the chart reveals a pattern of "rounded consolidations," where the price clusters tightly before typically preceding a breakout. In previous cycles, these base formations were followed by upward movements, initially toward $0.00001698 and subsequently pushing as far as the $0.00002052 resistance. However, these rallies have consistently lost momentum before SHIB's price could effectively challenge higher resistance zones, such as $0.00002501 or the longer-term cap near $0.00002970.
In another significant development, Consensys CEO Joseph Lubin has made exceptionally bullish predictions for Ethereum (ETH). Lubin is convinced that the price of Ethereum will increase by a staggering 100 times from its current trading position. Furthermore, he asserts that Ethereum will eventually "flip" the Bitcoin (BTC) monetary base, thereby surpassing Bitcoin in terms of overall value. Lubin even suggested that his "uber-bullish" prediction might still underestimate Ethereum's true potential. Ethereum's momentum has recently been revitalized through Lubin's involvement with SharpLink Gaming, a gaming affiliate marketing firm that, with the support of Consensys and Lubin, has strategically pivoted to become an Ethereum treasury company.
