WNBA Sensation A’ja Wilson Makes History with Record-Breaking 45-Point Games!

Las Vegas Aces basketball player A'ja Wilson has made an undeniable impact at the start of the 2026 WNBA season, both on and off the court. Ahead of her historic run, Wilson was captured in a professional sports portrait session, showcasing her signature black number 22 jersey and a vibrant, long red wavy hairstyle, a bold look that defined her early season image.
Just three games into the new WNBA season, Wilson delivered a monumental performance on Friday, May 15, against the Connecticut Sun. She dropped an astonishing 45 points, leading the Las Vegas Aces to a 101-94 victory at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. This game marked a historic moment, as Wilson became the first player in WNBA history to achieve multiple 45-point games.
Her statistical efficiency during this game was exceptional. Wilson shot an incredible 15-for-18 from the field, connected on both of her three-point attempts, and made all 13 of her free throws. She finished the game with 45 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks, and a steal, all accomplished in just 32 minutes of play. According to ESPN Research, this made her the only player in WNBA history to score 45 or more points while shooting 80 percent or better from the field. This performance also secured her fifth career 40-point game, setting a new WNBA record and surpassing legends like Breanna Stewart and Diana Taurasi. Her career-high remains 53 points, scored on August 22, 2023, against the Atlanta Dream, with Friday's 45 points now her second-highest scoring night and the highest in the WNBA this season.
Supporting her from courtside was her boyfriend, Miami Heat star Femi “Bam” Adebayo, witnessing her record-breaking achievement. Beyond the court, Wilson also garnered attention by attending the 2026 Met Gala, where she arrived in a custom strapless metallic gold column gown by designer Prabal Gurung, complemented by dramatic floor-length off-the-shoulder cape sleeves and layered gold choker necklaces, a striking red carpet appearance.
Despite her historic performance, Wilson remained humble in her post-game remarks. “Finding shots in our system and letting the flow of the game take over — that’s big to me,” she stated. “I want to be efficient. It’s beautiful to rack up all these points, but to be efficient, that’s what is key.” Her teammate, point guard Chelsea Gray, expressed profound admiration, saying, “You can’t get bored with watching greatness. I’m around it all the time, but I’m surprised every day.” Wilson also shared a sentimental note about the Mohegan Sun Arena, which is set to lose the Connecticut Sun to relocation next season. “This building has been special to me for a while,” she reflected. “Got my first WNBA point in this building and a championship in this building. It’s fun coming here. Going to miss this place.”
As a four-time WNBA MVP and now the first player in league history with multiple 45-point games, A'ja Wilson's early achievements in the 2026 season underscore her continued dominance and legacy in professional basketball.
