Nigerian music star and Grammy Award winner, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has broken a major record by becoming the first African artiste to cross 20 billion global audio streams across on-demand platforms.

The milestone was confirmed earlier this week by global music data tracking group, ChartMasters, after tallying streams from both Wizkid’s solo and featured tracks.

According to ChartMasters, the singer’s most-streamed song remains ‘One Dance’, his 2016 global hit collaboration with Drake and Kyla, which currently boasts over 3.6 billion streams on Spotify alone.

The track holds a Guinness World Record for being the first song in Spotify history to cross 1 billion streams.

Wizkid, who already made history in 2023 as the first African to receive the Brit Billion Award for over 1 billion streams in the UK, has now raised the bar even higher.

He also holds the title of the best-selling Afrobeats artist of all time, with over 65 million units sold worldwide, cementing his place in the global music industry.

The news has sparked celebration across the Nigerian entertainment scene, with fans hailing him as “Big Wiz” and praising him for putting Afrobeats on the world map once again.
