Wilfred Ndidi's Manchester United Transfer Interest

Former Super Eagles striker Julius Aghahowa has publicly endorsed Wilfred Ndidi’s potential transfer to Manchester United, describing the Leicester City midfielder as the ideal candidate to strengthen the Red Devils' midfield. Ndidi has been consistently linked with a summer move to Old Trafford, with reports indicating Manchester United is considering activating his reported £9 million release clause, which became active following Leicester City’s relegation from the Premier League.
In an exclusive interview with Africafoot, Aghahowa, a 32-capped former Nigerian international, expressed strong support for the deal. He stated, “Wilfred is the player the Red Devils need in midfield. He is surprisingly generous and capable of repeating efforts and covering a lot of space. He would be a considerable asset to the Manchester club if the transfer were to go through.” Aghahowa also revealed that despite interest from other prominent clubs, Ndidi’s preference is a move to Manchester United, aiming to join a big club and advance his career. He highlighted Ndidi's attributes, describing him as powerful, capable of pressing, winning back balls, and opening up the game with long diagonal runs.
Ndidi, who joined Leicester City in January 2017, has been a crucial figure in the club’s midfield and is recognized as one of the Premier League's top ball-winners. His extensive experience in the Premier League makes him a low-risk signing for United, especially as the club looks to rebuild for the upcoming 2025/26 season, with Casemiro reportedly nearing the end of his tenure at Old Trafford. Ndidi has made over 240 appearances for Leicester City and remains one of Nigeria’s most consistent performers in Europe.
Beyond Manchester United, several other clubs have shown significant interest in the 28-year-old Nigerian star. Juventus has reportedly opened negotiations with his representatives, while Premier League rivals Everton and Fulham are also in contention. Saudi Arabian club Al Ahli, along with other Saudi clubs, are also monitoring the situation. However, Aghahowa maintains that Ndidi's heart is set on Old Trafford. Leicester City is reportedly willing to sell the 52-cap Nigerian international this summer, hoping to secure between £12-£15 million, although Manchester United and Everton are exploring a deal closer to the £5 million mark, leveraging the activated release clause. With pre-season preparations commencing, Ndidi’s future is expected to be finalized in the coming weeks.
