Why I married Mercy Aigbe - Kazim Adeoti

Film marketer Kazim Adeoti has explained what attracted him to his actress wife Mercy Aigbe, saying her honesty and professionalism made a lasting impression on him.

Speaking in a recent interview with Oyinmomo, Kazim, also known as Adekaz, said he first worked with the actress in 2011 and was impressed with how she handled money during a film production.

“What I really admire about her is her honesty and straightforwardness; it’s something I truly respect. I remember in 2011 when she starred in a film titled Hajia Jemila. After I paid her, I was already used to people complaining that the fee was too small. But in her case, she actually came back to tell me there was leftover money. I was genuinely shocked.

“At the time, many people advised me to only work closely with men if I wanted to succeed in the industry. But I decided to give her a chance, and she completely changed my perspective. She’s not only a woman but a beautiful one at that and still, she acted with so much integrity. Honestly, I never collected that remaining money from her, and we continued working together from there”, he said.

According to Kazim, that simple act of integrity laid the foundation for their working relationship, which over the years blossomed into a romantic one.

Kazim and Mercy got married in 2022, a union that stirred controversy as the movie marketer already had a wife, Funsho Adeoti. Despite backlash from the public, both Kazim and Mercy stood by their decision.

In an earlier interview, Mercy explained that she chose to marry Kazim because of their shared interests and vision.

“One of the reasons I married him is that we’re both in the same industry. He understands what I do, and we are building an empire together,” she said.

The couple have since worked on several projects including the 2023 cinema movie Ada Omo Daddy, produced by Mercy and distributed under Adekaz Productions. The movie was a box office success and further cemented their partnership both on and off screen.

Mercy, who also runs a fashion store called Mag Divas, has repeatedly stated that she was financially stable before marrying Kazim and that their relationship is built on love and mutual support.

This year, she won the Best Supporting Actress award at the 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) for her role in Farmer’s Bride.
