The Blues stunned the European champions, beating them 3-0 in front of Donald Trump and many other fans at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Cole Palmer was once again the star of the show, with the English international scoring almost similar goals inside the first 30 minutes.

He then turned provider just before halftime, threading in a beautiful ball for Joao Pedro to put the game beyond PSG's reach.

It was a perfect game plan from Enzo Maresca and execution from his boys as they dominated the best team in the world this year.

The Parisians front three of Desire Doue, Ousmane Dembele and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia were a shadow of their usual best as Chelsea's defence kept them at bay for the entire 90 minutes.

Robert Sanchez particularly had a good game in goal, which helped him win the Golden Glove at the end of the tournament.

However, despite their newfound success, Chelsea have not automatically qualified for the next edition of the tournament, which will be held in 2029.

Just like the FIFA World Cup, the winner of the tournament doesn't get an automatic wildcard to come back and defend their trophy.

They'll instead need to work their way through the qualification if they want to make it back-to-back successes in 2029.

So, what do Chelsea need to do to qualify?

Chelsea will need to win the UEFA Champions League at least once between 2026 and 2028. The winner of Europe's biggest club prize gets automatic qualification.

This explains why PSG, despite losing, have already qualified for the 2029 edition of the tournament. Luis Enrique's side thrashed Inter Milan 5-0 in the Champions League final.

Chelsea had qualified for this competition by virtue of winning the 2021 Champions League under Thomas Tuchel.

Should the West Londoners fail to win the Champions League, they will need to rely on their UEFA coefficient rankings to get through.

However, there is a catch to this, as FIFA only takes two teams per country unless more than two teams win the Champions League.

For instance, if no English team wins the Champions League within the stipulated qualifying period for the 2029 tournament (2025 to 2028), they will pick the best two teams with the best coefficients.

At the moment, Chelsea is fourth in England with Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United ahead of them.

The last way to qualify is as the host team. Lionel Messi's Inter Miami were given the honours this time and reached the Round of 16.

The host team for the next tournament is yet to be known, as FIFA has yet to settle on a host country. There have been murmurs that Brazil are keen on hosting the tournament.

Apart from PSG, Pyramids have also secured their ticket. The Egyptian side beat Mamelodi Sundowns in their CAF Champions League.

Saudi Arabia's Al-Ahli are also through after winning the AFC Champions League, same as Mexican side Cruz Azul with the CONCACAF Champions Cup.

The Club World Cup final descended into chaos after PSG manager Luis Enrique was involved in a heated altercation with Chelsea striker João Pedro.

The two had to be separated after the final whistle, with Enrique appearing to put his hands on the Brazilian striker.

The Spanish manager refused to divulge what happened during his post-match briefings.
