After a highly publicized split from , has seemingly found her happily ever after with her boyfriend, . With Ben and Jen often reuniting to coparent their three kids, fans are curious about the low-key man in the 13 Going on 30 star’s life.
John is a Stanford graduate, who currently serves as the chairman of CaliGroup, a technology company that owns the CaliBurger restaurant chain and invests in various tech ventures.
“We really think of ourselves as a technology company that happens to sell cheeseburgers,” John said in a 2017 interview.
Prior to his work with the CaliGroup, he worked at Arrowhead as their vice president of intellectual property in 2024.
In addition to his roles in the technology field, John is also a published author, cowriting The Handbook of Nanotechnology Business, Policy and Intellectual Property Law in 2004, which provides a comprehensive analysis of the commercial challenges and legal considerations of nanotechnology.
He’s also published various articles on legal and policy issues and serves as the managing editor of Nanotechnology Law & Business.
The businessman was previously married to , a professional violinist who has worked with high-profile artists like Andrea Bocelli and Sting. They tied the knot in 2005, welcomed two children, and later divorced in 2011.
Jennifer and John were first romantically linked in 2018, shortly after the actress finalized her divorce from Ben.
“Although the divorce was just finalized, Jen has considered herself single for a long time. Dating is just a natural step,” a source told People at the time. “Jen will always care about Ben and help him be the best dad. She was very ready to move on though.”
The pair dated for two years before In Touch confirmed in August 2020 that they split up before Los Angeles “went into lockdown” amid the coronavirus pandemic. By May 2021, however, the two were back on.
Jen has remained close to her ex-husband of 10 years as they coparent their three children. The duo is frequently seen together at school events and during holidays, also supporting each other in times of need — most notably during the L.A. fires in January 2025.
Sources exclusively told Life & Style that same month that John was growing increasingly frustrated with Ben’s involvement in their lives and the situation could reach a breaking point, forcing Jennifer to make a difficult choice between the two men in her life.
“John has shown the patience of an absolute saint, he’s been so supportive and understanding of Jen’s situation with Ben,” the source explained. “But at this point, even he’s hit the wall. Ben’s constant presence is very hard to take, John’s like the third wheel in his own relationship.”
The insider said that even when Ben’s not around, he’s “calling and texting” and Jen “always answers,” adding, “It’s obvious she adores him, and it’s always been understood, any man that dates her has to be okay with Ben.”
