Protests Erupt in Ondo Following Killing of Farmers by Bandits

Akure, Ondo State – Tensions are high in Ondo State as protesters have taken to the streets, shutting down Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa's office at Alagbaka, Akure, and barricading major roads, including the Akure-Owo highway at Ogbese. The demonstrations are a response to the killing of five farmers in Aba Oyinbo, Akure North Local Government Area, allegedly by armed herdsmen.

The protesters displayed the bodies of the slain farmers in front of the Governor’s office, chanting solidarity songs and demanding immediate action to address the escalating violence. This incident follows a recent attack on four communities in Akure North, where over 20 people were killed and nine surveyors were abducted in Ilu-Abo.

The repeated attacks by suspected armed herders have sparked outrage among residents, who accuse the government of failing to protect them. The protesters have vowed to continue their demonstrations until concrete steps are taken to ensure the safety and security of farming communities.

Law enforcement agencies, including the police and the State Security Network Agency (Amotekun), have been deployed to strategic locations in Akure to maintain order and prevent further escalation of the situation. However, the roadblocks have left many commuters and motorists stranded, causing significant disruption to transportation.

The situation remains tense as the state government is yet to issue an official statement addressing the protesters' concerns. The public awaits a decisive response to the ongoing crisis and a clear strategy to prevent future attacks.
