Whispers Grow Louder: Osimhen's Blockbuster Real Madrid Move Saga Heats Up

Former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has ignited significant speculation regarding a potential blockbuster transfer, claiming that Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen could be on his way from Galatasaray to Spanish football giants Real Madrid. The 26-year-old forward, currently showcasing formidable form in Turkey, is reportedly the subject of 'underground talks' that could see him spearhead the attack at the iconic Santiago Bernabéu stadium.
Oliseh, a highly respected figure in African football, shared these insights on the Global Football Insight Podcast. He asserted that he had received credible information regarding Real Madrid's interest from a high-level source, though he refrained from disclosing his contact's identity. Expressing his excitement, Oliseh stated, “There’s a lot of talk under the ground about the possibility of Osimhen being a candidate… But when I heard it from a top personality, I was happy for the young man.”
Real Madrid's reported interest stems directly from Osimhen's exceptional performance. Since joining Galatasaray on a permanent deal in July 2025 for a Turkish-record €75 million, he has maintained a blistering scoring pace. His statistics from last season are impressive: 37 goals and 8 assists across 41 matches, leading Galatasaray to a domestic double and securing the title of Super Lig’s top scorer. This season, he has already netted six goals in just three UEFA Champions League matches, further cementing his reputation as a prolific forward.
The potential acquisition of Osimhen is being framed within a broader strategic evolution at Real Madrid. Reports suggest that Los Blancos may be seeking a solution to internal 'dressing room dilemmas,' possibly exacerbated by ongoing contract issues involving Vinicius Jr. Oliseh further elaborated that bringing in a pure centre-forward like Osimhen would allow the club’s superstar, Kylian Mbappé, to revert to his preferred and more natural left-wing position.
Mbappé has been deployed as a centre-forward at Real Madrid, and while he continues to score, many believe the club has yet to unlock his full potential in this role. His natural playing style thrives on the left wing, where he can leverage his pace, cut inside onto his stronger right foot, and create both scoring opportunities and assists. Playing as a centre-forward, according to analysts, reduces his chance-creating opportunities and subjects him to higher defensive pressure. Osimhen's presence as a central striker would free Mbappé to flourish in his optimal position, potentially boosting his goal output, assists, and overall attacking fluidity.
Sunday Oliseh also addressed the challenges faced by Brazilian winger Vinicius Jr. He noted that Mbappé's arrival created a positional conflict, forcing Vinicius Jr. to adapt from his natural role, which, in Oliseh's view, contributed to his struggles last season. Oliseh commented, “Los Blancos, in my opinion, have a Vinicius problem, and this problem is not the player's fault… One of them has had to adapt, and Vinicius is struggling while the manager himself has had clashes with him.” Oliseh even suggested that parting ways with Vinicius Jr. could be a possible solution to resolve these deep-seated positional issues.
If Victor Osimhen were to join Real Madrid, the club’s front three could take on a new, balanced configuration. Osimhen would occupy the centre-forward role, providing a strong presence in the box and a consistent goal threat. Kylian Mbappé would reclaim his natural left-wing position, enabling him to perform at his most effective. On the right wing, Federico Valverde would maintain balance and stretch the opposition's defence. This proposed setup aims to provide a balanced team and make Real Madrid's attack even more dangerous, potentially under the management of Xabi Alonso.
