When Ram Charan shared about his rivalry with 'RRR' co-star Jr NTR

2022 blockbuster 'RRR' directed by

SS Rajamouli

is only remembered for its box office records or the high-quality VFX, or its narrative, but fans also cherish the film for the heart-touching chemistry seen between the two leads-Ram Charan as

Alluri Sitarama Raju

and Jr NTR as

Komaram Bheem

. Throwback to the time Ram Charan was asked whether the director planned to show any rivalry between them in the film.

During his 2023 interview, as per a report by BollywoodShaadis, the actor was asked if Rajamouli intended to highlight rivalry between the two characters by extension, the actors themselves- Charan said he had no objections. He admitted that portraying rivalry wouldn’t have been wrong, but also mentioned that Rajamouli also wanted to showcase their genuine off-screen friendship during scenes where their characters were not in conflict as he mentioned, "But Mr. Rajamouli also wanted to share our very real bond off-screen during the scenes where we’re not rivals."In a separate interview with American journalist David Poland on his DP/30 series, Ram Charan had opened up about the long-standing rivalry between his family and Jr NTR's family. He acknowledged that while there is a strong sense of brotherhood and camaraderie between him and Jr NTR, a healthy competition naturally exists. Ram Charan explained that even within his own family, which includes seven actors, competition arises once celebrations are over, and the same applies to his relationship with Jr NTR.

He revealed that their families have been considered arch-rivals in the Telugu film industry for over 20 to 30 years, with the rivalry dating back to their predecessors, NTR’s grandfather, NT Rama Rao, and Ram Charan’s father, Chiranjeevi. Despite this history, Ram Charan said that he and Jr NTR have known each other for around 15 years, and there has been a lot of negative press around them, but they just look to create a bond.
