WhatsApp Reaches 3 Billion Users

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced that WhatsApp now has over 3 billion monthly users. The announcement was made during Meta’s Q1 results conference call on Wednesday. WhatsApp's business platform (WhatsApp Business) has significantly contributed to Meta’s $510 million revenue from its suite of apps, according to TechCrunch.

Despite its global presence, Zuckerberg acknowledged WhatsApp's challenges in the US market, where many users still prefer their default messaging apps. He expressed hope to eventually lead in the US messaging market, acknowledging their current position differs from most other regions.

Meta CFO Susan Li noted that WhatsApp continues to show the strongest Meta AI usage across the company’s family of apps, especially through one-on-one chats. She highlighted various entry points for users to engage with Meta AI.

To strengthen its position, Meta has introduced a standalone AI app aimed at boosting the adoption of its AI products, particularly in regions like the US, where WhatsApp isn’t as dominant. This new app, built on Meta’s latest Llama 4 language model, allows users to interact with Meta's AI assistant through both voice and text. Previously available across WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger, the assistant is now centralized in this app, representing an initial step towards more personalized and context-aware user interactions.
