What to look for on clothing labels: Fashion expert Mia Elizabeth reveals the materials you should you look out for on clothing and fabric labels when shopping - 9Style
Have you ever looked at the garment tags on the inside of clothes and been a little confused or overwhelmed?
Sometimes the fabric labels have multiple materials listed, like wool or polyester, alongside best washing, dry cleaning and ironing practices.
There's also so much discussion on what materials are best.
Well, now a fashion expert has weighed into the synthetics vs. natural fibres debate and revealed what materials you should look for when shopping.
Speaking to 9honey Style, Westfield Queensland stylist Mia Elizabeth also revealed the ideal piece of clothing for winter; crepe knits that she says "look really elevated, don't pill or crease, and hold their shape".
Crepe fabric is typically soft, stretchy, feel luxurious, but can be fragile.
When it comes to fashion, natural fibres are the likes of wool, silk, cotton and cashmere, while synthetic is typically materials like acrylic, polyester and viscose.
Of course, often brands blend materials.
"I lean towards natural fibres like cotton, linen, wool, and silk – they're more breathable, feel better on the skin, and are usually more comfortable in our climate, especially during the warmer months," Mia says.
But it's not all dire news when it comes to synthetics.
"However synthetics can be really practical when blended in, especially if they help with holding the shape or reducing creasing," Mia says.
"A cotton-poly mix or a wool blend with a bit of acrylic can give you that balance between comfort and durability, and they're often a lot easier to care for too."
Mia says she tries to opt for "100 per cent cotton" T-shirts and basics when shopping and one of her go-to stores for that is Uniqlo.
And, if you're investing in a winter coat, Mia says go for a coat that has "at least 50 per cent wool " and says the brand DISSH has some good options this season.
