It's a big week for the West with all eyes on Stonehenge for the summer solstice.

But there's plenty of other things to look forward to if early sunrises aren't your bag!

Thousands of people are set to mark the summer solstice, which signifies the end of spring, and for many is a spiritual celebration at dawn.

Each year, people journey to Stonehenge in Wiltshire to witness the first rays of sunlight piercing through the ancient stone archways.

The design of the monument, built about 2500 BC, means that on summer solstice the sun rises behind its 'heel stone' and its first rays shine into the heart of Stonehenge.

Solstice sunrise on Saturday is 04:51 BST.

There are, of course, other places around the West you can watch and enjoy the sunrise. Glastonbury Tor is one place famous for solstice gatherings.

There's also a Solstice swim at the Cheltenham Lido.

It's the summer, so that means warm weather and cricket. The Vitality T20 Blast is well under way and there's two games on Friday night.

Gloucestershire take on Hampshire and Glamorgan play Somerset.

On Thursday, Danny Boyle's latest film - 28 Years Later - is released. It was partially filmed in Cheddar Gorge.

So if you go, keep an eye out for one of the West's most famous locations on film.
