Walmart restructuring some support and training roles, memo says | MarketScreener Canada

(Reuters) -Walmart is restructuring certain store-support and training roles, according to an internal memo reviewed by Reuters, in the latest move to simplify its structure.

Bloomberg, which first reported the news, said that hundreds of store-support roles would be affected.

The U.S. retail bellwether is eliminating the market coordinator position, Walmart U.S. executive vice president of store operations, Cedric Clark, told employees in a memo sent on Wednesday. The role helps co-ordinate data compilation and analysis on behalf of some managers.

The company also plans to make adjustments to some roles in its training academies as it seeks to switch focus to higher volume locations and train more associates in person, the memo said.

Walmart, however, plans to offer affected employees alternative roles as coaches and even open up certain new roles in places where there are no open roles, the memo said.

Walmart is the largest U.S. private employer with about 1.6 million employees. It employs about 2.1 million people worldwide in total, according to its website.

The latest move underscores the company's continued efforts to streamline its operations. Walmart in May announced plans to cut about 1,500 jobs, affecting teams in global technology operations, e-commerce fulfillment in U.S. stores and its advertising business Walmart Connect.

The company in February had cut some roles and closed its office in North Carolina, as part of a move to relocate employees to its main hubs in California and Arkansas.

In May, the world's largest retailer had also said it would have to raise prices due to the high cost of tariffs put in place by U.S. President Donald Trump.
