Wale Drops Truth Bombs: New Album 'Everything Is a Lot' Promises Raw Vulnerability!

Grammy-nominated D.C. rapper Wale is set to release his eighth studio album, titled "Everything Is a Lot," on November 14 via Def Jam. This highly anticipated project marks his first full-length release under Def Jam and comes four years after his last studio LP, 2021’s "Folarin II." The album promises to serve as an apt soundtrack for the complex realities of the world, delving into the myriad stresses, personal life developments, and global pressures that Wale has encountered.
Wale exclusively told Billboard that the album is a profound expression of how "heavy everything is in the world around me, my personal life, and the industry." He channeled these burdens into the project, aiming "to express a certain level of vulnerability." This raw honesty is evident in tracks like "Lonely" and through his leaning on soulful samples and bluesy Western influences.
The album features an expansive soundscape, crafted by a diverse roster of producers including BNYX, Salaam Remi, Kel-P Vibes, Go Grizz, Streetrunner, Emil, and Genio. The 16-track set, primarily recorded in London and Los Angeles, will also showcase genre-bending collaborations with a yet-to-be-revealed lineup of buzzy names across R&B, hip-hop, and Afrobeats.
Key tracks from "Everything Is a Lot" include the bluesy lead single "Blanco," which Wale debuted live at Dreamville earlier this year. "Where to Start" samples SWV’s classic 1992 hit “I’m So Into You,” while "Fly Away" samples Maxwell’s Grammy-winning “Pretty Wings” to explore themes of abandonment and attachment issues. Wale emphasizes that the album's varied production and honest tracks are not contrived, but rather about "capturing that feeling in the moment."
This album signifies a new chapter in Wale’s two-decade career. Prior to Def Jam, he spent over a decade with Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group (an imprint of Warner Records), during which he released six albums. His tenure at MMG included four Billboard 200 top 10 projects, with two reaching number one: "The Gifted" (2013) and "The Album About Nothing" (2015). Following a semi-public falling out with MMG, particularly with Meek Mill, Wale signed with Def Jam in 2023.
Reflecting on the current music landscape, Wale notes that "the industry is a completely different place than it was four years ago," observing a "purge" where many lost their jobs. He also touches upon the perennial challenge of maintaining audience attention, a theme he addressed with his debut album "Attention Deficit." He acknowledges the increased difficulty in an age where "fans are rewiring themselves to only like what the algorithm tells them to like," making his continued presence in the conversation a blessing.
