Founded in February 2025 by Martin Tisne, with Ayah Bdeir joining as CEO in January after leading Mozilla’s AI strategy and founding littleBits, Current AI aims to create an alternative where AI benefits everyone, regardless of language or location. This initiative directly confronts the problem faced by individuals, such as a farmer in rural India who struggles to research a dying plant online because she doesn’t speak English and current AI systems often fail to represent her language.
One of Current AI's pivotal projects is Suno Sutra, developed in collaboration with Bhashini, the Indian government’s AI language division, and launched at the India AI Summit in February. Suno Sutra, meaning “listening chronicles” in Hindi, is an innovative, pocket-sized, offline device capable of running AI in 22 Indian languages without requiring an internet connection. This device is open-sourced, encouraging developer communities to build upon it. As CEO Ayah Bdeir highlighted in an interview with TechCrunch, there are hundreds of different languages and dialects in India that are currently underrepresented by existing AI technologies.
