Viral Outrage: Police Investigate Alleged Assault of Zazoo Crooner Portable in Custody

Controversial Nigerian musician Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been arrested and is currently in police custody in Ogun State following allegations of assault. The arrest reportedly stemmed from a complaint filed by his baby mama, Omobolarinde Akinyanju, also known as Ashabi Simple, who, alongside her siblings, accused the singer of assault and reported the matter to the police.
A video that has since gone viral on social media—particularly on X (formerly Twitter)—has triggered widespread public outrage. The footage shows the handcuffed artist inside what appears to be a police detention facility in Ogun State. In the video, Portable is seen shirtless and visibly distressed, sobbing while allegedly being assaulted or tortured as he sits on a couch. The disturbing visuals have raised serious concerns about police brutality and potential human rights violations.
In response, the Ogun State Police Command has addressed the incident. The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi (also referred to as Oluseye Babaseyi), confirmed that Portable is indeed under arrest and in custody. However, the police strongly condemned the actions depicted in the viral video, stressing that such conduct is unacceptable and runs contrary to established police ethics, standards, and operational procedures.
DSP Babaseyi further emphasized that the Nigeria Police Force does not permit the filming or public display of suspects, noting that such actions endanger suspects and undermine the integrity of ongoing investigations. He assured the public that an internal investigation into both the alleged assault and the unauthorized recording is currently underway. The Command stated that any personnel found culpable of misconduct or procedural violations would face appropriate disciplinary measures in accordance with the law, adding that the accountability process has already been initiated.
The incident follows reports that Portable had evaded an earlier attempt at arrest about a week prior, before eventually being taken into custody on Saturday. The strong public reaction to the circulating video underscores ongoing concerns among Nigerians regarding accountability, professionalism, and adherence to due process within law enforcement agencies.
