Viral Outrage: Police Investigate Alleged Assault of Zazoo Crooner Portable in Custody

Controversial Nigerian musician Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, has been arrested and is currently in police custody in Ogun State, following allegations of assault. The arrest was reportedly prompted by a complaint filed by his baby mama, identified as Omobolarinde Akinyanju, also known as Ashabi Simple, who, along with her siblings, reported him to the police for assault.

A video circulating widely on social media platforms, particularly X (formerly Twitter), has sparked significant public outrage. The footage shows the handcuffed singer in what appears to be a police detention facility in Ogun State. In the viral video, Portable is seen shirtless, sobbing, and allegedly being assaulted or tortured while sitting on a couch, raising serious concerns over police brutality and human rights violations.

The Ogun State Police Command has swiftly responded to the incident. The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi (also referred to as Oluseye Babaseyi), confirmed Portable's arrest and custody. However, the Command strongly condemned the conduct displayed in the viral video, emphasizing that such actions are unacceptable and directly contrary to established police standards and procedures.

DSP Babaseyi reiterated that the police do not condone the filming or public display of suspects, stating that such practices compromise both the safety of suspects and the integrity of ongoing investigations. He assured the public that an internal investigation into the alleged assault and the unauthorized filming is underway. The Command stressed that any personnel found culpable in violating these protocols or engaging in illicit conduct would be sanctioned in line with the law, affirming that the process to address the situation has already commenced.

This incident comes a week after Portable reportedly evaded an initial arrest attempt, only to be taken into custody on Saturday. The widespread condemnation of the video highlights a persistent call from Nigerians for accountability and adherence to due process within law enforcement agencies.
