Vinted Valuables Vanish: £10K Prize Accidentally Sold with Coat, Leaving Partner Fuming!

Online second-hand marketplaces like Vinted have become popular platforms for buying and selling pre-loved items. However, alongside successful transactions, there are numerous accounts of shoppers and sellers encountering unexpected, and sometimes unsettling, surprises within their parcels. Previous incidents have included an NHS nurse receiving an "unhinged" extra gift that exploded over new shoes, and a shopper discovering "period blood all over the inside" of new flare bottoms. These incidents highlight a recurring theme of overlooked details in packaging, often leading to humorous or frustrating outcomes.
In a recent incident that quickly captured widespread attention online, Vinted seller Ellie Cosgrove inadvertently included a significant "bonus prize" with a coat she sold for less than a fiver. Ellie, a mum who left the NHS to "earn through travel," packaged the item without thoroughly checking its pockets. It was only after the buyer received the cut-price clothing that the extent of her oversight became clear.
Mortified by her mistake, Ellie took to TikTok to share the "epic fail" that nearly cost her dearly. In her clip, she recounted: "Sold a coat on Vinted for £3 and gave away a bonus prize without realising." The item she had accidentally left in one of the pockets was her car keys. The buyer, upon discovering the keys, promptly messaged Ellie, who was initially unaware of the error.

The buyer's message read: "Hi, I've just received the coat. All good. I've found a car key in the pocket though!" Fortunately for Ellie, who posts under the username @iamelliecosgrove,the situation had a positive resolution. The kind buyer offered to post the keys back, averting a potentially significant loss for the former NHS worker. Sharing the incident online, Ellie captioned her post with questions like, "Do things like this happen to anyone else?" and "How bad is that?", adding that her partner Connor was "fuming" about the blunder.
The hilarious mishap, posted just one day prior to the reporting, swiftly went viral, accumulating over 80,000 views and more than 1,000 likes. The comments section was flooded with TikTok users sharing their own Vinted "disaster stories." One seller recalled, "I gave away my drivers licence." Another buyer commented, "I got a drivers license & student card in a bag once.. reached out and told her. she wanted me to pay for 1st class special delivery postage back." Other users shared discoveries ranging from "a used tissue" to nearly giving away a "wedding dvd." These anecdotes underscore the commonality of forgotten items in second-hand apparel, making Ellie's story a relatable highlight of the Vinted experience.
