Vikrant Massey Opens Up on Career & National Award Goal

Vikrant Massey, a prominent actor known for his diverse roles and captivating scripts, has garnered significant recognition for his performance in the film 12th Fail. Reflecting on this acclaimed work, Massey openly expressed his profound aspiration for a National Award, stating, “I’ve always aspired to have one. I’ve prayed for one. When I was that young kid wanting to become an actor, I always wanted a National Award because that’s the greatest achievement an actor in India can have—to be presented an award by the president of the country. And I hope it happens. So, fingers crossed.” He hopes both the film and its director, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, also receive awards.
Massey is actively preparing for several new projects. Following his collaboration on Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, he is set to begin intensive preparations for his upcoming film titled White, where he will portray the revered Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. He shared his nervousness about this challenging role, stating, “I’m very nervous. I’ve been spending a lot of time with him and with the script. We start shooting in August. Spending time with him is also quite unnerving because he’s something else—he’s God-sent for me. This film, this opportunity, everything feels like it’s God-sent.”
Another anticipated project for Massey is Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, co-starring Shanaya Kapoor. He described Kapoor as a “breath of fresh air” and praised their collaboration, noting that he learned a great deal from her. However, taking on this role made him nervous, as it marks his first foray into an outright commercial Bollywood Hindi movie where he performs lip-syncing, a new experience for him. Directed by Santosh Singh, this romantic drama is scheduled to hit theatres on July 11.
Despite his growing success and acclaimed performances, Vikrant Massey has revealed that he continues to face instances of being undermined by certain individuals within the film industry. In a recent conversation, he acknowledged that some people still “look down” on him and do not fully appreciate him as an actor. However, rather than being disheartened, Massey explained that this skepticism only strengthens his resolve and serves as a powerful motivator. He clarified that this feeling is not specifically tied to “star kids” but rather to specific individuals who attempt to belittle him. He stated, “No, it’s not about a star kid. It’s about the kind of people who make you feel small… They help keep the fire inside you burning. I actually think we need people like that—those who challenge you, who look down on you. They still exist, and I’m thankful for their presence.” He views such negativity as a driving force, proving his detractors wrong when his films perform well and continually pushing him to improve his craft.
