Vice President Shettima In London To Accompany Buhari's Remains Back To Nigeria For Burial | Sahara Reporters
Shettima departed Nigeria around midnight on Sunday and was received in the United Kingdom on Monday morning by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuff Tuggar, alongside Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum and the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Vice President Kashim Shettima is currently in London, where he is expected to accompany the remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari back to Nigeria for burial.
Shettima departed Nigeria around midnight on Sunday and was received in the United Kingdom on Monday morning by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuff Tuggar, alongside Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum and the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.
President Bola Tinubu had dispatched Shettima to the UK with the presidential air fleet to convey the corpse of Buhari back home, as soon as he learnt of his passing.
Buhari had been hospitalised in the UK for a prolonged illness before he passed away quietly on Sunday at about 4:30 pm.
His corpse is expected to arrive in Nigeria today (Monday), for the final burial rites, which will get the full compliments of the Federal government.
President Tinubu has summoned an emergency Federal Executive Council meeting, where the involvement and participation of the government in the burial will be deliberated upon.
