US Visa Snub Rocks Liberia's National Team Delegation

The United States has issuedwidespread visa denials to members of Liberia's national football team delegation, known as the Lone Star.

This action has cast significant doubt over the team's scheduled international friendly match against Minnesota United II, which was slated for July 26 in the United States. The friendly was intended to be a celebratory event, coinciding with Liberia's 179th Independence Day festivities.

Initially, the Liberia Football Association (LFA) submitted a list comprising 25 individuals for the delegation. This list was subsequently reduced to 10 applicants.

During visa interviews conducted at the U.S. Embassy on Tuesday, a majority of these applicants were denied entry. Specifically, six out of the ten individuals who attended their interviews received denials.

Among the delegation, only LFA First Vice President Sekou Konneh was officially confirmed to have been granted a visa. The Liberia Football Association has publicly acknowledged and confirmed these visa denials.

Following these developments, reports from The Liberian Investigator indicate that the friendly match is now widely expected to be canceled. The U.S. Embassy has not yet released any public statement or comment regarding its decisions on the visa applications.
