US to reinstate country-specific tariffs August 1 | Vehicle Service Pros

The Trump administration will notify its trade partners of their specific tariff rates starting Monday, with duties ranging from 10% to 70% set to take effect Aug. 1, according to a July 7 announcement as reported by Supply Chain Drive.

The move comes as President Trump's 90-day pause on country-specific reciprocal tariffs approaches its July 9 expiration date. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the U.S. is focused on "18 important trading relationships" and that countries without deals will return to the tariff rates first outlined in Trump's April 2 global reciprocal tariff announcement.

"President Trump's going to be sending letters to some of our trading partners, saying that, if you don't move things along, then, on August 1, you will boomerang back to your April 2 tariff level," Bessent said on CNN's "State of the Union" Sunday.

Since early-April's reciprocal tariffs, the U.S. has reached deals with only three countries. The administration has also developed a framework for a deal with China and signed a pact with the U.K.

Bessent emphasized that the Aug. 1 implementation date does not represent an extension of the 90-day pause, stating "It's not a new deadline. We are saying this is when it's happening. If you want to speed things up, have at it. If you want to go back to the old rate, that's your choice."
