Urgent Warning: Popular Anti-Spider Hack Hospitalizes Toddler, Parents Beware!

A concerned mother has issued a critical warning to parents after her two-year-old son was hospitalized following accidental consumption of a minuscule amount of peppermint oil, a product often used as a natural spider repellent. Elessame shared her harrowing experience on TikTok, emphasizing that even the smallest drop of this seemingly innocuous essential oil can pose a significant danger, particularly to children under the age of five.
Elessame explained that she had purchased a bottle of peppermint oil from a high street store, intending to use it diluted in a spray bottle to deter spiders from her home, a common household hack. Despite the bottle being almost empty, it still contained a tiny residue. While she was distracted, the straw applicator from the bottle brushed her son's lip, and the immediate reaction indicated he had ingested a miniscule quantity.
Acting swiftly, Elessame attempted to mitigate the situation by brushing her son's teeth, providing him with water, and wiping the inside of his mouth. However, upon consulting online resources, she found advice to contact emergency services. She promptly called 111, expecting to be told to monitor him at home. To her surprise, she was instructed to take her son to the local Accident & Emergency department within the hour.
At the hospital, medical staff conducted checks on her son's heart rate and blood pressure, both of which were found to be abnormally low. It was at this point that Elessame received a stark education on the dangers of essential oils: even quantities as small as one to two milliliters are classified as poisonous and toxic, especially for young children. As a result, her son had to remain in the hospital overnight for observation and treatment.
